30th Eric Hays Race Held at PCMR Last Weekend
The 30th Annual Eric Hays Memorial alpine race
at Park City Mountain Resort was one of the most competitive fields in
recent history with former national team athletes, current college
athletes and a strong field of up and comers.
The Park City Ski Team athletes took advantage of the home field to
capture top honors at the event, which was held Dec. 16 through 19.
On the women's side, former national-team athlete Jessica Kelley,
who is skiing and coaching for the Park City Ski Team captured the
overall. For the men it was Park City Ski Team's Coley Oliver, who also
posted two individual wins and the overall.
Other top Park City Ski Team finishes were posted by Sydney
Staples, who skied her way to an individual win in the last Giant Slalom
contested on Sunday. In addition there were a number of top-five
results by PCST athletes: Bridget French (2nd), Katie Bernhard (4th),
Christoph Lentz (4th), Derek Strand (4th) and Loudon Fruth (5th).
A highlight of the event was the night race held under the new lights on
PayDay run on Friday.
On Friday, it was a University of Utah sweep, with Eva Huckova
and Torjus Krogdahl winning the slaloms for the women and men,
respectively.
The race didn't finish without a battle in the men's event as
U.S. Ski Team athlete Andrew Phillips was a close second, and certainly
did not holding anything back in his pursuit of a win at the first ever
night event on PayDay.
Other events were won by former Park City Ski Team and U.S. Ski Team alumnus Adam Cole, and former Dartmouth
student- athlete Christine Roberts.
